When it comes to relaxing at home, everyone needs a space that they can retreat to. For me, that space is my bedroom. While I don’t often get to take such a retreat (without a child tagging along), I keep it ready just in case. You can take these ideas to create a bedroom retreat, or create a quiet space somewhere else in your house!
Comfortable means something different to everyone, but for me it means pillows. And I don’t just mean a pillow, I’m talking lots of pillows! (cue the eye roll from my husband). There is just something about a bed with a lot of big comfy pillows that screams comfort to me.
Pillows are so versatile because they can be easily changed to suit the season or your mood. Just throw on a new cover and poof, It’s a new pillow! I enjoy changing mine in the fall and around the Christmas season. It is so much fun to mix and match colors, sizes and shapes! There are really no rules when it comes to throw pillows so don’t be afraid to try new color combos or patterns!
Now let’s talk about blankets. For this bed, I kept the base bedspread white to provide contrast to all the bold pillow colors. I then added a fleece throw blanket to tie it all together. I happen to love throws just about as much as pillows. They are multi-purpose because they are not only decorative, but great for a chilly night!
Last but not least, I like to add a little wall décor here and there. I happened upon some great pieces of art on etsy.com that matched my theme perfectly. They were fully customizable and very reasonably priced, which is a must if it’s going in my house!
I also found a really unique shelf idea on pinterest that I thought would work well in my bedroom retreat. If you are handy, then this would be a great project to try! If you’re like me, however, you’ll need to ask someone else. Fortunately, my dad is quite handy. I think he did a great job!
Just like my pillows, I enjoy changing it up for each season. This is very easy to do and the possibilities are endless! Here I simply added some command hooks and ornaments to jazz it up for the winter season.
I hope you have found some inspiration to change things up a bit in your own home and create a retreat you can call your own! Where is your favorite spot to relax? Let me know in the comments! Happy decorating!
