Tying a Room Together

Have you ever wanted to redecorate a room but had no idea where to start? You are not alone! I am reminded of when I was planning our wedding all those years ago. Some women have their whole theme planned out from the time they are young. But not me! I had no clue where to start. I remember stumbling upon a cake topper at a craft store that caught my eye. And that was it! From there my theme took off! When decorating a space, sometimes you just need a starting point. A rug, a throw or a decorative piece to build off of. From there, you can begin tying the room together. For me, it started with a rug.

Find a pattern or focal point:

I was shopping for rugs when we first moved into our new house, but like always, I had no idea what I was actually looking for. Then this rug caught my eye.

There was just something about the simplicity of the design that I really loved. Once I had my focal point, it was time to add more pieces to make it all fit together.

Tying a room together with complimentary pieces:

I love when I am out shopping or searching online and find something that just fits perfectly into my design. It doesn’t always work so easily, but isn’t it awesome when it does! I began to find little things here and there that when with the scroll pattern in my rug. The first was a lamp set that had almost an identical pattern!

I was very excited to find something that matched so perfectly, and even more excited to find that there was more! We have a lot of shelves in our home which can be just as much as decoration as what you put on them. I was fortunate to find shelves that also contained a scroll pattern. While subtle, it still brings a connection from the floor to the wall.

As I have mentioned before, I have a thing with pillows so I couldn’t forget to add a few of those. 😊 Finding throws or pillows that contain something similar to your pattern helps to tie the furniture into your them. These pillows, like the rug, contain simple yet beautiful lines. Amazon carries beautiful pillow covers. You can find some to match any décor! https://amzn.to/2IMm5Tg

As you can see, creating a theme for a room can be as simple as finding some great, inexpensive pieces and putting them all together. You could also throw in some great artwork to reinforce your theme too! I hope this provides you with some inspiration to get out there and find ways to transform your space! Happy decorating!
