Whenever my family has a gathering, there is never a shortage of food. I love to serve finger foods because they are easy to eat and even easier to make! Jalapeño poppers are one of my favorite appetizers so I love to duplicate the flavor in other recipes. You can make it into a dip or these tasty little jalapeño popper pinwheels!
Jalapeño Popper Pinwheels
This appetizer requires very few ingredients and won’t take you long to make. The heat level can also be modified to suit the tastes of your guests. It all starts with the dough, which comes all ready to go! I love crescent roll dough because it has such as light and buttery texture. This dough is the perfect foundation for these jalapeño popper pinwheels. Simply unroll the dough and pinch all of the seams together so that you have one large triangle.
Next, you’ll spread your softened cream cheese over the dough. It’s important for the cream cheese to be room temperature so that it spreads without tearing the dough.
Now you have the foundation to begin layering on the flavor! Garlic powder is not always a traditional ingredient in jalapeño poppers, but it adds a great flavor boost. Sprinkle the garlic, then the star ingredient which is, of course, jalapeños! You can buy a can of pickled jalapeños that are already chopped up. We love spicy in our house, so I chose to add a good amount of them. If you prefer less heat, then use less peppers. Finally, add your cheese and top it off with bacon.
Forming the Pinwheels
Now that you have the filling in place, it’s time to roll the pinwheels up. This is done just like you would with cinnamon rolls. Carefully roll them into a nice little log. Doing this on a non-stick surface is key as this dough can be quite sticky!
The trickiest part of this whole process is cutting the jalapeño popper pinwheels into the actual rolls. You need to use a sharp knife, or floss to cut these delicate rolls. Keep your baking pan ready and close by so that you can transfer them easily. You should get about 10 rolls from this recipe. Bake them for about 15 minutes or until they are lightly browned. Serve them warm or even room temperate. Either way they are delicious!
