Its that time of year again, and if your children are like mine they enjoy a good Christmas story. There are so many wonderful children’s books out there to choose from. So many, in fact, that I could probably read a different one each night! But I find that every year we still pull out our all time favorites. For a book to be a favorite in our house, it has to be wonderfully illustrated and not overly wordy (kind of like this post, right? 😊) So without further ado, here are my top 5 children’s Christmas books:
1. Once There Was a Christmas Tree
This story, by Jerry Smath, is a wonderful tale of four families (the bears, foxes, rabbit and mice) who learn that Christmas is all about sharing with others. Each family is inspired to pay it forward by the kind acts of the family before them. It even has a “snow globe” on the front cover. Simply turn the book upside down and watch the snow fall! 2. Olivia Helps With Christmas
If you are not familiar with the Oliva book series by Ian Falconer then you should definitely check it out. Olivia is a witty little pig who often finds herself getting into one kind of mischief or another. In this story, Olivia and her siblings cannot wait for the arrival of Santa Claus. Many children will be able to relate to how difficult that wait is! Olivia shares her family traditions and favorite (and not so favorite) presents. Its a fun story for kids and adults alike! 3. Santa and the Goodnight Train
The Goodnight Train series offers great bedtime stories. In this book, you will follow the Goodnight Train into dreamland where Santa and presents await. This is on my list of top 5 Christmas books because the beautiful illustrations will make you feel as though you have jumped right into a little child’s dream. Ride along as the train races to find Santa and his sleigh. Will it get there in time? Get it here: https://amzn.to/36U9Pcr
4. The Very Snowy Christmas
In this tale by Diana Hendry, little mouse and big mouse are getting ready for Christmas. Little mouse sets out on his own in search of holly for the tree, only to experience his very first snow. Believing the sky is falling apart, little mouse rushes home, encountering many more surprises along the way. Kids will relate to this story of overcoming fears of the unknown. A must read! 5. Who Will Guide My Sleigh Tonight
Have you ever wondered what would have happened if Santa had not discovered reindeer? What if he had chosen mice to pull his sleigh, or snakes, or lions?! In this amusing story by Jerry Pallotta, you can explore just what would happen if Santa had chosen another animal team. He tries everything from kangaroos and monkeys to cheetahs and rhinos. If you love a more humorous book and are a fan of animals, then this story is for you! https://amzn.to/2VQYX9a
So there you have it! My top five Christmas books for Children. Who knows, maybe one will become a favorite of yours too! What are your book traditions for the holidays? Let me know in the comments! Happy reading!
