Looking for fun ways to teach upper and lowercase letters? Look no more! As a homeschool parent, I am always looking for interactive ways to reinforce concepts that they are learning. Because it is important for children to learn how to distinguish between upper and lowercase letters, I have created some fun letter activity printables to help them do that! There is no better way to have fun with letters!
Letter Tracing
The first letter activity I made is simple letter tracing for both upper and lowercase. The majority of the activity is tracing over the provided letters to help teach correct letter formation. Once they have traced both lines of provided letters, there is also a blank line if your child wants to practice making the letters on their own.
Letter Craft
Each letter of the alphabet includes a cute animal craft such as alligator for A, butterfly for B and so on. You can check them out here: Each craft includes the template for the letter, parts (with color code) and a finished example. They are super easy and fun to make! You can get more details on these in my post here: https://theartofmomathome.com/?p=772
Mini Book
The mini book letter activity reinforces the letter sounds by showing a picture starting with that letter (which can be colored) as well as a traceable sentence about the picture. For example, A is for alligator. It also includes a blank page at the end to encourage your child to think of another word that starts with the letter. They can then draw something to match and write a short sentence.
I Spy
Another great activity for reinforcing letters is to place I spy. This printable includes many different pictures (some starting with the target letter and some not). The child must identify which pictures start with the target letter and color them. My own child always enjoyed doing activities like this!
Upper and Lowercase Sort
To help teach the difference between upper and lowercase, I have also included a letter sorting activity. This includes cut outs for both upper and lowercase, as well as two adorable backgrounds (one upper and one lowercase). The child can cut out the pictures themselves or simply place pre-cut pictures onto the correct scene. Each one goes along with the target letter as you can see here.
Letter Search
If you like I spy, then you will enjoy doing a letter search! To wrap up what the child has practiced already, this activity involves searching through the picture and circling the upper and lowercase target letter. They can also color their picture before or after they have located all the letters.
I hope that you will find these activities as enriching and fun as we did! They are simple to do and can be adapted for preschool to first grade to suit your child’s skill level. You can purchase individual letters, activities or bundles.
